Main Art Gallery: Upstairs
Like Main Art Framing, Main Art Gallery is located on the second floor of Main Art Supply. Our curatorial staff presents both established and up-and-coming artists from the Richmond region and the Southeast—artists working in a wide variety of mediums, from painting and sculpture to photography and installation. Every month we showcase a new artist or group of artist at an opening that coincides with other gallery openings in the city, the ever-popular First Friday series. Please join us on the first Friday of every month for an opening reception (hors d'oeuvres courtesy of Baja Bean Company) from 7 to 9 pm.

ARTIST STATEMENTS
The imagery in my work is based on childhood memory, appropriated diagrams, and reflections of the visual realities of urban decay. My work expresses a continuing dynamic of time, experience, and personal perception. I believe that abstract painting has the capability to express the complex nature of the human drama we call life.
Bill FisherWhen I begin a painting, I do not have a clear end in mind, or any great insight into the content of the finished work. I begin with an impression, emotional tone, or image that is stuck in my head. From here the paintings are informed by experiences which haunts one's life and provide a sense of identity. These experiences are almost always playing a hand in the development of the painting while I remain oblivious to them. It is usually towards the end of a painting when I realize what my source material was. By working this way I stay honest with myself and the viewer. I always try to paint my subjects whether it be a portrait or landscape from a point of compassion and place sincerity at the top of my priorities.
