Main Art Gallery: Upstairs
Like Main Art Framing, Main Art Gallery is located on the second floor of Main Art Supply. Our curatorial staff presents both established and up-and-coming artists from the Richmond region and the Southeast—artists working in a wide variety of mediums, from painting and sculpture to photography and installation. Every month we showcase a new artist or group of artist at an opening that coincides with other gallery openings in the city, the ever-popular First Friday series. Please join us on the first Friday of every month for an opening reception (hors d'oeuvres courtesy of Baja Bean Company) from 7 to 9 pm.

ARTIST STATEMENT
The content of my work is often directly influenced by my preoccupations. I have recently been concerned with things conical, walking sticks, angels, accordions, tattoos, cups half full, cups half empty, bourgeois man being composed of his possessions, the tangos of Astor Pianzollia, the decannonization of St. Christopher, the importance of manners, texting, our need to animate the inanimate, political chest beating, the violence and brutality of fashion, the expansion of self, and sex drive, reverse, neutral and park.
The formal nature of my work is a result of a lengthy evolution, elderly enough to have obscure origins and dim, confused sources. It has developed organically and traveled a path not unlike that of a lost tourista. The work has its roots in ceramics and minimalism. It borrows unashamedly from painted toys, cartoons, duck decoys, caricature, Mr. Potato Head, voodoo dolls, and almost all primitive art. I like to think of the work emerging out of a tradition populated by the likes of Nadleman, Grooms, Cornell, Westerman, Nutt, the Monster School, the Harry Who, Funk Art, et al.
